Topcon Europe Positioning is very pleased to announce the release of the MS range of motorised reflectorless total stations intended for very high accuracy construction, survey, engineering and monitoring tasks. Available as two different models, the MS range include the MS1A for high accuracy long distance measurement activities, whilst the MS05A is available for the ultimate in high accuracy survey and construction projects. The supplied feature sets make them suitable for precision tasks such as railway infrastructure survey, bridge monitoring applications, underground control networks, precise steelwork setting out and dynamic hydrographical applications.

Industry Leading Accuracy

By combining high performance absolute encoders with the newly introduced IACS (Independent Angle Calibration System) system, both instruments can offer the level of reliable angular accuracy and precision that is required on the most demanding of job sites. Whilst the MS1A is able to measure to 1” of Arc (0.3mgon), the MS05A goes even further and allows the user to carry out angular measurements to 0.5” of Arc (0.15mgon)! Additionally, both instruments are able to carry out high accuracy distance measurements. Offering 1mm + 1ppm for long distance observations to retro-targets (up to 300m) and prisms (up to 3.5km), the MS1A can also measure in reflectorless mode to surfaces up to 200m away at an accuracy of 3mm + 1ppm!
For the highest possible distance accuracy, the MS05A offers incredible sub-millimetre distance measurement capability of 0.5mm + 1ppm to retro targets up to 200m distance, and standard prisms can be measured up to 3500m away to an accuracy of 0.8mm + 1ppm. Measurement time has been reduced, with fine and rapid measurements being carried out in less than 2.5 seconds, an essential requirement when carrying out observations on dynamic construction scenarios.

Auto Pointing / Tracking

The MS total stations range includes a greatly improved auto-collimation system, employing superior algorithms to enhance performance. Unlike traditional systems which lock on to the nearest target (within the telescope’s field of view) having the strongest return signal, the MS range system allows the instrument to lock on to the target that is closest to the centre of view of the telescope. This applies to both standard prism (up to 1000m away) and even retro targets! Basically, this means that automated systems can reliably utilise this system to ensure that the prism that is locked on to and measured is the correct one!
In addition, both instruments have improved auto-tracking capabilities and are able to track standard prisms up to 1000m (MS05A) away quickly and reliably.
